Arnold Goldman, Founder and Chairman of BrightSource Energy, Inc., was also the founder of Luz International, Ltd. (no longer in operation). Mr. Goldman and the Luz International team were the first to prove that solar power can be produced in large quantities at affordable prices by building nine Solar Electricity Generating Stations (SEGS) in California’s Mojave Desert between 1984 and 1990. These plants, which generate a total of 354 MW, still operate profitably. No other company has yet to come close to this achievement.
