BrightSource Energy Named a Global Cleantech 100 Company

BrightSource honored for the fourth consecutive year based on significant market impact

(OAKLAND, CA) October 3, 2012 – BrightSource Energy, a leading concentrating solar thermal technology company, has been named a Global Cleantech 100 company by the Cleantech Group, a leading global research and advisory firm focused on innovation in energy and the environment.

The Global Cleantech 100 list highlights the most promising private clean technology companies around the world that offer solutions to the planet's most pressing environmental challenges. The rankings represent the collective opinion of hundreds of leading experts from well-respected cleantech innovation and venture capital companies. The selected companies are considered highly likely to make the most significant market impact over the next five to ten years.

“We’re honored to be recognized as a Global Cleantech 100 company for the fourth year in a row,” said John Woolard, President and CEO of BrightSource Energy. “Our solar thermal power plant technology is accelerating the shift to a clean and reliable energy mix. We’re very proud to be advancing the solar industry and to be helping our customers diversify their power supply.”

To qualify for the Global Cleantech 100 list, companies must be independent, for-profit, clean technology companies that are not listed on any major stock exchange. Nominees from over eight thousand companies from 85 countries were considered for this year’s list. Companies were weighted and scored to create a short list of 236 companies presented to the expert panel for final input.

“The 2012 Global Cleantech 100 is markedly different in its composition to that of 2009, our first edition,” said Richard Youngman, Cleantech Group Managing Director. “As such, it is a strong statement of how the collective market opinion has shifted as to what type of companies are the most likely to have significant market impact in a 5-10 year timeframe.”

BrightSource Energy received the award for its industry leading efforts to provide reliable and affordable solar energy. The company’s Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System in California’s Mojave Desert is more than halfway complete and will begin delivering power to customers PG&E and Southern California Edison in 2013.
