GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
BrightSource Energy, Inc., headquartered in Oakland, California,
designs and builds large scale solar energy plants. We enable
industrial and utility companies to lessen their dependence
on fossil fuels by providing a low cost, reliable source of
clean energy using industry-leading breakthrough solar power
tower technology. Our technology is the lowest cost and most
reliable method available to generate central thermal solar
power. Our wholly owned subsidiary, Luz II, Ltd., located
in Jerusalem, Israel, provides cutting edge product development
and engineering, project management, and solar field manufacturing
and supply services.
The combined experience of BrightSource and Luz II’s
technical and commercial team in developing, building, financing,
and operating large scale solar power plants has established
our company as the proven leader in the creation and provision
of solar thermal energy.
We are seeking an experienced construction project General
Manager to provide direction and support on what will be ultimately
multiple solar plant construction projects in the US. We offer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to the standard responsibilities,
the General Manager will act as a Project Manager overseeing
all aspects of the project using planning, monitoring, and
controlling processes. S/he will be responsible for co-ordination
and completion of the project and to this end will perform
a variety of tasks including setting deadlines, assigning
responsibilities, and monitoring and summarizing progress
of the project. S/he will have the authority to run the project
on a day-to-day basis.
In the future, when the BSPM organization will
handle various projects, in addition to the standard General
Manager responsibilities, s/he will act as Project Execution
Sponsor responsible for securing spending authority and resources
for the project. As Project Execution Sponsor s/he will validate
the project’s goals and objectives, keep abreast of
major project activities, and be the decision-maker for the
project. S/he will lead the project execution planning and
provide support for the Project Manager, assist with major
issues, problems, and policy conflicts, remove obstacles,
be active in project execution risk management, approve scope
changes, sign off on major deliverables, and sign off on approvals
to proceed to each succeeding project phase.
The General Manager will respond to the BSE
Chief Operation Officer and will closely cooperate with BSE
Project Development and LUZ II Project Engineering.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Mechanical or Civil Engineering degree
with at least 10 years professional background. Construction
Management degree is advantageous.
• Practical site management or construction management
experience in large industrial projects, in particular general
and power plant projects. A class A Construction Management
Certification is valuable. Previous employment by a known
EPC contractor is helpful.
• Project finance understanding.
• Very good oral and written skills.
• Should be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced
environment.
• Should be decisive and work well under pressure, particularly
when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays. The ability
to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing
and resolving specific problems is essential, as is an understanding
of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings.
• Familiarity with computers and software programs for
job costing, online collaboration, scheduling, and estimating
is also important.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Generally, this position reports to the Director
of Power Block and provides engineering and construction coordination
support on US solar projects. Will provide a single engineering
liaison for contact among corporate entities and drive, track,
and oversee the myriad relevant processes, including oversight
of critical documentation and necessary follow-up. Will lead
multiple and simultaneous tasks related to project development,
design, and construction. Will include, but is not limited
to, the following specific duties and responsibilities:
• Coordination of engineering responsibilities
supporting development of conceptual design.
• Perform engineering calculations, review and approval
of specifications, documentation, and drawings.
• Monitor, direct, and control activities of engineering
consultants and construction contractors.
• Perform and coordinate design reviews.
• Develop scope of services for contractors and consultants
for assigned tasks.
• Perform feasibility studies and condition assessments.
• Provide overall task control to adhere to budgets,
scope, and schedule.
• Prepare requisitions for equipment and miscellaneous
items as required.
• Assist in tracking projects against schedule, budget,
and against phase review objectives.
• Assist to develop and implement recovery plans for
off-schedule and unanticipated eventualities.
• Prepare periodic management reports and presentations.
• Assist with the preparation and management of the
Project Kick-Off Meeting.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to guide, manage, and work
with consultants performing design and construction inspection
services.
• Good judgment, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as a member
of a project team.
• Ability to perform design reviews and provide recommendations.
• Ability to perform engineering analysis, design, drafting,
and technical report writing.
• Effective communication skills both verbally and in
writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside
and outside the company.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective organization skills including the ability
to prioritize and plan work.
• Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task
including managing multiple projects at various stages of
planning, design, procurement, and construction.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical
and/or Chemical Engineering, advanced degree preferred.
• PE preferred but not required.
• Proven experience in Power and/or Chemical Plant engineering
and construction sector.
• Previous experience with EPC contractors.
• Experience in developing project scope and request
for proposal/bid.
• Experience in cost estimating, project budgeting,
and schedule control.
• Ability to utilize computer aided design software
a plus.
